The purposes of the Association are to organize, promote, encourage, assist, and develop the interests of all visual artists on the island of St. John.

The Artists' Association of St. John, Inc is an educational, non-profit organization founded in 2001 to bring together both professional and amateur visual artists who work on, and are inspired by, St. John in the US Virgin Islands. These visual artists have joined together for the benefit of shared resources, education and marketing. The association has an active membership of painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters, photographers and other visual artists who wish to share and explore the opportunities of developing their art on the islands. The association is funded by shows, membership dues, as well as private and corporate patrons of the arts. Volunteers administer the programs and endeavor to build the association into a world-class artists' organization promoting the visual arts on St John.

The island of St John has always been a haven for artists. Its stunning beauty and peaceful atmosphere have given inspiration and strength to artists for decades. Now those artists who have been inspired by this paradise have formed an art organization to encourage new generations of artists and to strengthen the reputation of the island as an artistic center and art destination in the Caribbean.

The immediate and projected goals of the Association are:

1.. Develop a directory listing of the Association members and associates.

2.. The Board of Directors will recruit a Board of Advisors who can assist the Association in the operation of a nonprofit corporation.

3.. Host exhibitions where Artist Members and Artist Associates may show their work.

4.. Support the young artists of our community.

5.. Arrange workshops and lectures with local and visiting professional artists.

6.. Establish a gallery where Artist Members may exhibit their work

7.. Develop a lending library of art-related books and videos.
